After college I started my working career as a site engineer on building sites before moving up to multi-million pound civil engineering projects such as a bridge and the UK's biggest hydro-electric scheme.

In the 1980s I worked as Technical Officer at an international materials development organisation in London helping to solve the problems of companies from all over the world that wanted to do business in the UK. I also represented several industries at the British Standards Institution helping to write quality procedures for the UK construction industry.

After that I went back to getting my hands dirty and started my own company manufacturing upmarket interiors for private and commercial clients in London and elsewhere in the world.

As a manufacturer I had to tackle every conceivable business problem: resolving technical issues; staff problems; finance; transport; manufacture & installations; legal problems; fire regulations and, last but not least — tricky customers. I even tried hiring expensive 'experts' who, as it turned out, knew nothing and just made things worse!

So I really have a comprehensive knowledge of coping with all the problems inherent in operating a small business in a fast moving environment.

For over fourteen years now I have been running my small IT and business support company which specialises in providing a broad range of bespoke services to smaller independent companies; everything from writing quotations to negotiating with my clients' customers when things get tricky, or from checking over contracts for traps to briefing lawyers to respond to false allegations of fly tipping. You name it, I'm in the thick of it dealing with the ordinary and the not-so-ordinary.
